Block calls on WhatsApp
Stop customers calling your WhatsApp number so they write instead, with an auto-reply for anyone who calls.
On this page
If your team only replies in writing, you can stop customers calling your WhatsApp number. The call button disappears for them, and anyone who still calls is rejected and gets a reply inviting them to write.
Before you start
- You need the Administrator role.
- The number must be connected through official WhatsApp (Cloud API), and Hadir Chat's own WhatsApp calling must be off for this number.
Turn it on
- Open Settings, then Channels, and choose the WhatsApp channel.
- Open the Calls tab.
- Turn on Block calls on this number.
Under the switch, Current state at Meta shows what Hadir Chat reads from Meta directly: "Calling: off" and "Call button: hidden". To allow calls again, turn the switch off; the settings go back to what they were before.
Note: Meta applies the change at once, but it can take up to 7 days to update the call button on customers' phones.
Auto-reply to callers
If a call still gets through:
- It is rejected, and the conversation shows "Call rejected automatically (calls are blocked on this number)".
- The customer gets a message. The default: "We only take messages here. Write to us and we'll reply quickly 🙏".
To change it: on the same tab, under Auto-reply to callers, turn on Send an auto-reply, write your text and select Save reply. Leave it empty to use the default message.
According to Meta, a customer's call opens the 24-hour window, so the reply is sent within it. If it can't be sent, that is noted in the conversation. At most one reply an hour is sent per conversation.
If your number also runs on the WhatsApp Business app
According to Meta, calls to the WhatsApp Business app don't go through the API, so the app on your phone may still ring. The tab shows a warning about this. See Using the WhatsApp Business app with Hadir Chat.
