Transfer workspace ownership

Hand the workspace to another member of your team; they accept from their own account, and you stay a member.

On this page

The owner is the one person who can pay, change the plan, invite the team, export the data or erase the workspace. If the owner leaves, or someone else takes charge of the workspace, do not share the password: transfer ownership from the account dashboard. It takes two steps: the current owner offers it, and the new owner accepts from their own account.

Before you start

  • You are the current workspace owner.
  • The new owner is a member of your team. If not, invite them first from the Team page of the account dashboard, or add them in the inbox as in Add your team.

Offer ownership

  1. Sign in at hadir.chat and open Settings.
  2. In Workspace owner (1), choose the person from New owner (2).
  3. Enter your Current password (3).
  4. Select Offer ownership (4).

You see “The offer is sent. It stands for two days.”, and the section shows “Offered to … — waiting for them to accept, until …”.

If you see “There is nobody else to hand it to yet.”, invite a teammate first. Anyone on your team can be offered ownership.

Withdraw the offer

Until the offer is accepted, select Withdraw the offer next to it. You see “The offer is withdrawn.” and the accept link stops working.

Accept ownership (the new owner)

  1. You receive an email, “You are offered ownership of …”, with an Accept ownership button.
  2. Read what ownership means, and accept only if that is what you both intend.
  3. Select Accept ownership. You must be signed in to your own account; sign in if asked.
  4. Settings opens with “This workspace is now yours.”

While ownership is offered to you, Settings also shows “You have been offered ownership of this workspace. The link to accept it is in your email.”

After the transfer

  • The new owner receives “… has a new owner”; billing, the team and the data are theirs to manage from Settings.
  • The previous owner is told that ownership has moved. They remain a member; billing and the data are no longer theirs to manage.
  • Nothing changes in the inbox: conversations, inboxes and roles stay as they are.

If accepting fails

If you see “This offer is no longer valid — it expired, was withdrawn, or was meant for someone else.”, check you are signed in with the account the offer was sent to; otherwise ask the current owner to offer it again.

Note: the Workspace owner section is shown only to the owner, or to the person ownership is offered to. For the other roles, see Roles and permissions.
