Connect email
Connect your support mailbox, from Microsoft, Google or any other provider, so customers' emails arrive in the inbox as conversations.
On this page
When you connect your support mailbox, such as support@example.com, to Hadir Chat, every email a customer sends becomes a conversation in the inbox, and your team's reply reaches them as a normal email. The first steps are the same for everyone; then you choose your email provider.
Before you start
- You need to be an Administrator in Hadir Chat.
- You need the sign-in details of the mailbox you want to connect, or help from whoever manages email at your company.
Choose your provider
- In the inbox, open Settings, then Inboxes, and select Add Inbox.
- Choose Email.
- On Select your email provider, choose your provider's card (1).
If your mailbox is on Microsoft 365 or Outlook, or on Google Workspace or Gmail, choose its card if you see it: connecting that way only needs you to sign in, with no technical settings. If your provider has no card, choose Other Providers.
Connect with Microsoft or Google
- Type the mailbox address in Enter email address.
- Select Sign in with Microsoft or Sign in with Google.
- Sign in with that same mailbox and accept the permissions it asks for. You come back to Hadir Chat automatically.
- Pick the agents who answer this mailbox, then select Add agents.
Connect another provider
- On the Email Channel page, enter a Channel Name (1), such as "Support email".
- Under Email (2), enter the address your customers write to.
- Select Create Email Channel (3), then pick the agents and select Add agents.
After it is created, you see one of two things:
- A forwarding address under Forward emails to this address:. Set your mailbox to forward all incoming mail to it, and the emails arrive in the inbox.
- IMAP and SMTP settings. If no address is shown, or you want replies to go out through your own mail server, enter both as in the next section. Without them, no emails are processed.
Enter the IMAP and SMTP settings
Your provider's help pages list these details. Select Click here on the success page, or open the channel's settings and the Configuration tab.
- Under IMAP, turn on Enable IMAP configuration for this inbox and fill in Address (such as
imap.example.com), Port, Login and Password; tick Enable SSL if your provider requires it. Select Update IMAP settings. - The SMTP section then appears. Turn on Enable SMTP configuration for this inbox, fill in Address, Port, Login and Password, and pick the Encryption your provider specifies. Select Update SMTP settings.
Note: many providers do not accept your normal password when two-step verification is on, and ask for an "app password" created in your mailbox's security settings. If you see a message that the settings could not be updated, try one, and check the address and port.
Test the channel
Send an email from another address to your support address; a new conversation appears under the channel shortly. Reply to it from the inbox, and check that the reply arrived in the mailbox you sent from.
